Once the roses have faded either side of the front door I feel it’s time to make an autumn wreath for the door. I walked around the garden and collected together flowers, foliage, berries, seeds etc, that I felt looked good together.

Materials to make the wreath

For the base I used a large rattan wreath from Hobbycraft. I started by winding ivy around the base and added semi dried hydrangea at regular intervals, pushing the stems through the base to hold them in place.

Next I added red/purple foliage, pink flowers, and white berries. The stems of all these were pushed through the base to secure them. As a finishing touch I collected ornamental quince from the garden and added those, giving a real autumnal look.

The wreath dried on the front door for about three weeks before it needed reviving. It was extremely hot and sunny over this time and the hydrangeas were bleached of their colour but I decided to keep them, adding orange berries, pheasant feathers, and pine cones to give a different autumn look.
